LASER HAIR
REMOVAL
How does laser hair
removal work?
Laser hair removal works by light energy passing through the skin, being
selectively absorbed by the pigment in the hair, which converts to heat
energy. The heat safely and effectively disables the hair follicle,
without damaging the skin.
How does laser
compare with other hair removal methods?
Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are all temporary methods that
must be repeated frequently. Laser hair removal offers permanent hair
reduction for lasting results.
How does laser
compare with Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive, and painful process that involves
inserting a needle in each individual hair follicle and delivering an
electrical charge to them one at a time. Electrolysis often requires
years of treatments at regular intervals. By delivering light energy to
hundreds of hair follicles at a time, lasers effectively treat an area
in just seconds that would take over an hour with electrolysis.
Which body areas can
be treated?
Any area, except around the eyes. The upper lip, face, neck, underarms,
bikini line, legs, chest and back can all be treated.
How long will it
take?
Because lasers treat many hairs at a time, small facial areas (upper
lip, chin, etc.) can be treated in about 5-10 minutes. Medium body areas
(bikini, underarms, etc.) can usually be done in 15-20 minutes. Large
body areas take about 30 to 60 minutes. Follow-up treatments are often
shorter, as there is less hair to treat.
Does it hurt?
The laser uses
a cooling mechanism that soothes as it glides along your skin. When the
pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild warming
sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is required.
Are treatments
expensive?
Compared to a lifetime of waxing, shaving or purchasing depilatory
creams, laser hair removal is very affordable. As opposed to
electrolysis, which treats only a single hair at a time, laser hair
removal treats many hairs at a time resulting in fewer treatments and
quicker results.
How many
treatments will I need?
Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time, but
actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression and
resting. Lasers work by disabling hair in their active growth stage at
the time of treatment. Since hairs enter this active growth stage at
different times, it is necessary to do several treatments to disable all
of the hair follicles in a given area. An average of six treatments is
normally recommended.
PHOTO SKIN
REJUVINATION
How does
this process work?
Intense Pulsed light is utilized and passed over the desired region in
pulses. The light safely penetrates the skin and is absorbed by abnormal
pigmentation and/or capillaries.
The
heat inflicted by the laser causes damage to the abnormal capillaries or
lesions and the body begins its natural self-healing process.
What is
the treatment process?
The
treatment begins with the cleansing of the skin and the application of a
cooling gel. Immediately following, pulses of light are passed over the
desired region and the patient begins to feel a mild warming sensation
across their skin. Following the treatment, the cooling gel is removed,
the patient’s skin is cleansed and sunscreen is applied.
What are
the possible side effects?
In
general, side effects are extremely rare. After treatment, few patients
experience mild redness or flushing, . darker/more visible capillaries.
In more extreme cases, some will experience blistering or swelling.
How many
treatments are necessary?
We
recommend anywhere from 3-5 treatments with 3 weeks in between each. To
maintain your results, it may be necessary to have once a year touch-up
treatments
How long is the recovery period?
Because this technology uses Intense Pulsed Light, which is
non-abrasive, there is virtually now down time allowing clients to
return to work or other activities immediately following treatment.
